Week ending April 25th
Malala and Curie class
Curie and Malala – What a Start!
Curie and Malala have had an amazing first week back after the holiday! Everyone has settled quickly back into routine, full of energy and excitement for the term ahead.
In maths, we’re tackling time to the five minutes, and the class had great fun making their own clocks to help practise. Over in science, our focus is materials, and we’ve already been hands-on by creating boats from recycled plastic bottles – a perfect blend of creativity and sustainability.
If you find your child walking like an Egyptian...that is because we have gone back in time for our history lessons to learn all about ancient Egypt! We can not wait for some of the crafts that will come out of this unit.
In our writing root, we’ve dived into Leon and the Place Between, a magical tale about a boy’s adventure at the circus. To bring the story to life, students have watched magic tricks, acted out circus scenes, and even enjoyed some delicious circus treats like popcorn and candy floss! Not to mention watching some of the amazing acrobatics of Cirque De Soleil.
Speaking of diving....Swimming has been another highlight – with several students making incredible progress, confidently moving from needing floatation support to swimming independently.
The farm will start next week and we are super excited to see what they have in store for us there.
All in all, a fabulous start to Summer Term 1!
Swift class
Swift have had a fantastic first week of the new term. In English we have been focusing on our new book 'Curiosity' which is all about exploring Mars. This has led to some insightful and thoughtful conversations around the possibility of life on other planets. They have worked hard in Maths looking at fractions and decimals as well as dividing and multiplying numbers by 10 and 100. They have also enjoyed a walk to the park in the sunshine.
Attenborough class
After the Easter holiday, this week has just flown by.
For the summer term, we have started our new topics in humanities and science; we will be exploring the Middle East in our history lessons and Humans and Animals Over Time in science. We are also looking at two new books this half term – Real-Life Mysteries where the children have already enjoyed discussing whether or not aliens, Big Foot, the Loch Ness Monster or crop circles, to name but a few, are real or fake. We will also be diving into a book about the Mars Rover and its discoveries.
In our PSHE lessons this term, we will be looking at Physical Health and Mental Wellbeing, Growing and Changing and, Keeping Safe. We will be looking at medicines, healthy sleep routines, vaccinations, puberty, personal identity, mental wellbeing and basis first aid skills.
Finally, we have continued with our SATS practice in readiness for the exams which will begin next month and have enjoyed revisiting maths and English topics.
Spring term 2025
Week ending March 28th
Malala and Curie class
Another fantastic week in Malala and Curie! Change can be challenging for children, and our students have certainly had their fair share—but they pushed through like the little troopers they are, working hard to regulate their emotions.
In math, we continued focusing on money and the complex addition involved, including regrouping, borrowing, and multi-digit calculations. In science, we explored human growth and how we change from infancy to adulthood. This led to a lively discussion—especially when some of us teachers were deemed "elderly" by the students!
Although we didn't get to swim this week, we had an amazing time at the park, as you’ll see in the photos. The boys were respectful and excellent listeners.
We've also been diving deep into phonics, working hard to close gaps, and adapting beautifully to new lesson structures. And when life gave us lemons—literally—we made lemonade more than once!
We can't wait to see what next week brings as we approach half-term!
Swift class
Swift have had a busy but successful week and have all adapted to the addition of new pupils very well. We have continued to work on writing motivational leaflets in English. In Maths we have all worked hard to recap some key knowledge and on practicing SATS questions. As well as working hard on our learning we have enjoyed building relationships playing on the 'wii' and constructing with wooden magnets as part of our next activities.
Attenborough class
This week, we were delighted to welcome Evelyn and Kyra into Attenborough Class. The children have been focusing on building and fostering positive relationships with their peers. Thanks to the dry weather, we enjoyed playing football and engaging in games like ‘Tag’ on the field.
Our exploration of Earth's biomes and ecosystems continued, as we embarked on a journey around the globe. Additionally, our new Art class provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to create adorable Easter chicks while sharing more about their common interests, pets, and families.
The children had a wonderful time foraging during our Forest School session, discovering wild garlic and mint growing along hidden pathways. Meanwhile, our raised beds are thriving under their care, as the children diligently water and nurture the new herbs, fruits, and vegetables.
The Star of the Week is Kyra, who settled into Attenborough Class quickly, demonstrated maturity, and made positive choices. We are also awarding an additional certificate to Thomas for his efforts in making positive choices and listening to adults.
Week ending March 21st
Curie and Malala class
In our Malala and Curie classes this week, we embarked on a delicious and creative adventure into the world of pizza making! The children kicked off the week by designing their own pizza boxes, adding their unique flair to each one. They then dove into the exciting task of crafting their own pizza recipes, exploring different ingredients and flavor combinations. As part of the preparation, the students also made 3D models of their pizza designs, bringing their culinary ideas to life in a fun, hands-on way. On the big day, they put all their hard work into action, creating their very own pizzas to enjoy and share. It was a week full of creativity, teamwork, and, of course, delicious food!
In Math, we focused on adding measurements in centimeters and millimeters. The students continued to solidify these skills through practical exercises, ensuring they feel confident in their ability to work with these units of measurement.
In Science, our topic was healthy eating. We explored the food pyramid and discussed the importance of balanced meals, learning about the different food groups and how they contribute to a healthy lifestyle. We also looked at the concept of a healthy plate, helping the students understand the importance of making nutritious choices.
In Writing, we tied our learning to the theme of pizza making by focusing on recipe writing. The students practiced using clear and detailed instructions, while also focusing on the use of the suffix "-ing" to add variety and accuracy to their writing.
In Humanities, we’ve been exploring Africa, with a special focus on Uganda. The students have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the rich cultural differences and traditions that make Uganda unique. They’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the diversity in the world and have shown great curiosity in understanding various aspects of Ugandan life.
Finally, we continue to foster strong social skills by combining the classes for swimming lessons. The students are having a fantastic time, not just improving their swimming techniques, but also working together, supporting each other, and building lasting friendships.
It's been a week filled with exciting learning opportunities, creativity, and collaboration! We look forward to what’s next as we continue to grow and enjoy this journey together.
Attenborough class
This week, we saw the children begin their SATS practice journey in preparation for the Year 6 assessments next term. The children have shown a great resilience and determination when tackling the questions as we revisit Maths topics, reading comprehensions and grammar.
We have dived into our new texts Jabberwocky written by Lewis Carroll, a nonsense poem about the killing of a creature called the Jabberwock and The Last Seaweed Pie by Wendy Shurety, a story about ocean conservation and how communities can work together.
It was our turn in the kitchen this week and so we had a go at making Cornish pasties. This recipe included a lot of peeling, chopping, slicing and mixing and, ended with some old fashioned ‘crimping.’ I hope the end results tasted as good as they smelled when they came out of the ovens.
This week, the Star of the Week goes to Gideon for demonstrating a ‘can-do’ approach when tackling the SATS questions. Additional certificates are awarded to Thomas for completing his first four day week in Attenborough, Lily for building her engagement with independent writing and Freddie for embracing the SATS practice papers with such a positive attitude.

In math, we’ve been making great progress with measurement and are nearly ready to move on to fractions and money. Meanwhile, in science, our exploration of the human body has continued with a focus on exercise. Exercise BINGO has been a huge hit, keeping us active and engaged while learning about the benefits of movement.
Out on the playground, the arrival of new outdoor toys has sparked imaginative and cooperative play. The current class favorite? Digging in the dirt and mulch with tractors—an activity that has brought lots of excitement!
One of the highlights of the week was a fantastic cooking lesson, which was so well received that we have planned another immersive, curriculum-connected session for next week.
As always, children and staff are working on building strong relationships and practicing effective communication skills. We can't wait to see what the next week has in store!
