Welcome
All the pupils at The Promise School have Education & Health Care Plans (EHCPS) with primarily Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. A significant proportion of the pupils have a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Conditions, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), attachment difficulties and Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
Engaging in learning is a key focus. The whole school community is committed to providing an effective learning environment within classes of usually no more than eight pupils. In addition to our highly experienced teaching and pastoral support teams who provide learning, family and pupil wellbeing support, we are seeking to develop and deepen our own in-house specialist team by employing a Speech and Language Therapist and Counsellor. The Promise has strong relationships with external professionals in order to ensure that a holistic support package is in place to support each individual pupil to meet their needs.
Our approach to behaviour management is trauma informed and involves carefully selected rewards, clear consequences and consistency of approach that recognises individual pupil needs and circumstances. We include parents/carers/families in the whole school community and recognise our approach will be far more effective when a close partnership exists. Clear communication between school staff, families and the wider community is vital to maximise the expectations, confidence and self-esteem of every pupil in our school.
The Promise School community is one we are all very proud to be developing and a part of.
We aim to support and encourage our pupils to do as well as they can and to help them develop the skills they will need for the future. We will give them extra help during the school day so that they can catch up on any schoolwork they may have missed. They will be supported and encouraged to learn how to mix with other pupils and to appreciate the benefits of working with others. We will help them to share and co-operate, learn how to make and keep friends, and how to enjoy their days at school.
We will work closely with parents, carers and families so that we can together help the pupils to build a happy and successful life.
